Marpole Community Day June 1st – Community Opera Chorus Debut Concert!

Our Community Opera Chorus will be making its debut in concert on Saturday, June 1st at Marpole Community Day! At 1:25pm we’ll be on the outdoor stage at Marpole-Oakridge Community Centre. Please join us for some opera favourites with our chorus members, soloist baritone Andrew Greenwood and pianist Roger Parton.

DVBIA Perch Program –  June 3rd Outdoor Concert

Please join us at Lot 19 for a special concert of opera favourites! This summer, Opera Opulenza has joined the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association’s outdoor Perch Program. We’ll be performing once each month throughout the summer at lunchtimes, alternating between Lot 19 and Cathedral Square. Our first show is Monday, June 3rd. Each show will be different from the last. Watch this space for details of shows to come.

Canadian soprano Katie McCullough has always been passionate about connecting with others through music. Throughout her musical career Katie has explored many different genres of music such as opera, jazz, pop, musical theatre, and sacred music. Katie’s love for music led her to complete a Diploma in Voice Performance at Mount Royal University, a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Ambrose University College, and a Master’s Degree in Opera Performance at the University of British Columbia. As well, she attended The Centre for Opera Studies in Sulmona, Italy and the European Music Academy in the Czech Republic. She has performed the roles of: Despina (Così fan tutte), Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Anna Maurrant (Street Scene), Frasquita (Carmen), Nannetta (Falstaff), Rosina (The Barber of Cowtown), and Suor Dolcina (Suor Angelica). In addition to operatic roles, Katie has performed concert repertoire with the Calgary Civic Symphony, The Instrumental Society of Calgary and The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Her accolades include Winner of The 2013 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions-Western Canada and People’s Choice Award, as well as being an Award Winner at the 2014 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions- Northwest Regional Auditions.

Thomas Lamont is an up and coming tenor from New Westminster. He delights in performing across the lower mainland in a variety of styles including opera, jazz, and musical theatre. Some of his recent engagements include Almaviva in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia with Burnaby Lyric Opera, soloist for Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri with Early Music Vancouver, Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with UBC Opera, soloist for Handel’s Messiah with the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra, and soloist for J.S Bach’s St. John’s Passion with the UBC Symphony Orchestra. Thomas is looking forward to performing in the ensemble for Vancouver Opera’s production of Rossini’s La Cenerentola, running from April 27th until May 12th. Currently Thomas is completing a Bachelor’s of Opera Performance at the University of British Columbia studying under lyric baritone Dale Throness.

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s 100th Birthday Celebration – Day of Music concert

Please join Opera Opulenza in celebrating the VSO’s 100th Anniversary! We will be performing in the Annex Lobby at 7:30 pm, on Saturday, January 26th, at 823 Seymour street. Elaina Moreau and Sunny Shams will be singing a selection of arias, accompanied by Roger Parton, piano. All events are free!
